I am a Professor in the Department of Geography and Environmental Studies at Toronto Metropolitan University (formerly Ryerson University) in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. I have served as Graduate Program Director for the Master of Spatial Analysis (MSA) from 2007-2015 and in 2018, Department Chair from 2015-2018, and Undergraduate Program Director for Geographic Analysis in 2019-2021 and since mid-2022.
My expertise is in geographic data visualization and GIS-based multi-criteria decision analysis (MCDA) methods to support effective spatial decision-making. With my research students, I am developing and studying map-centred, exploratory methods to evaluate phenomena such as public health, urban quality of life, and environmental change. We also work on GIS concepts to support participatory planning (“argumentation maps”) and investigate the decision support capabilities of GIS technologies such as location-based services and geospatial 3D printing.
